The Anzac partnership - and traditional trans-Tasman rivalry - will be honoured in Queenstown next week with a special rugby game.

Following the dawn service on Anzac Day, to be held from 6.45am at the War Memorial on Marine Pde, more than 60 boys in blue will swap dress uniforms for sports kit and prepare to do battle on the Queenstown Recreation Ground in a match between New Zealand Police and the Australian Police, in an Anzac ``friendly''.

Some of the members of the New Zealand team will do battle against the Australians today when a South Island team takes on the Australians at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin at 1pm.

Tuesday afternoon's game will be the third and final game of the Australian Police rugby tour - the team played Canterbury police on Wednesday in Christchurch, in which the Cantabrians triumphed 24-22.

Players will include several former top-level players, including some who had represented provincial unions or Super rugby franchises.

Organiser and New Zealand team co-manager Senior Sergeant Kerei Gray, of Christchurch, said the Australians had been working hard to prepare for the tour and would be ``more than tough opponents''.

``But, this gives New Zealand police rugby a chance to put itself back on the map as far as police sport goes.''

Kick-off for the South Island Police game in Dunedin is at 12.30pm today, while kick-off for the final Anzac Day test is 2.30pm.

The New Zealand side includes former Crusaders hooker Tone Kopelani and former North Harbour hooker Roger Dustow.

The New Zealand Police team to play in Queenstown is: David Isaia; Joe Reuben (Northland); Cameron Cross (Wellington); Roger Dustow (Waitemata); Juan Benadie (Counties Manukau); Phillip Brown (Southern); Warwick Cheney (Southern); Kane Finnie (Canterbury); Murray Hewson (Eastern); Aaron Huddleston (Waitemata); Tone Kopelani (Canterbury); Tain Lam (Auckland); Luatangi Li (Waitemata); Liam Smart (Canterbury); Sitanisilao Nansen (Counties Manukau); Vai Potoi (Counties Manukau); Justin Robbins (Canterbury); Riki Simmonds (Wellington); Hua Tamariki (Southern); Doug Tausili (Auckland); Greg Thomsen (Waitemata); David Whitecliffe-Davies (Counties Manukau); Rei Toroa (Waikato).

Coaches: Tux Cocker (Auckland City); Rameka Poihipi (Bay of Plenty).
