Otago captain Michael Collins is believed to have played his last game for the blue and golds.

Collins is expected to head to Wales at the end of the Super Rugby season. He previously played in Wales for the Llanelli Scarlets side in 2015, when he made quite an impression.

Collins, who will turn 28 this year, qualifies as a local player in the Welsh side through relations who were born in the United Kingdom.

This makes him an attractive option for any club in the United Kingdom as he does not fill any import quota.

But with Covid-19 creating plenty of uncertainty, nothing is concrete until the signing is announced. He was linked with Welsh club Ospreys but nothing has emerged.

Collins started playing fullback when he went to the Scarlets for the 2015-16 season and moved into that position when he returned to New Zealand.

He is one of the most experienced players in the Otago line-up and has played 71 games for Otago, having made his debut in 2012, his first year out of school.

He played for the Blues from 2017-19 and made 29 appearances.

He joined the Highlanders last season and played 11 games last year. He played his first game for the team this season last Sunday against the Blues.

There was talk of Collins turning out for Wales but he hosed that down a couple of years ago.
