Southland Rugby has began an advertising campaign seeking coaching applications for the 2020 season.

But do not be in too much of a rush to brush up your curriculum vitae. A brief press release did not sound too encouraging for any aspiring coaches out there.

"Our current coaching staff Dave Hewett, Dale MacLeod and Jason Kawau are coming to the end of their contracted periods with Rugby Southland. Therefore we, as an organisation, have an obligation to advertise the roles to the public," it stated.

The roles advertised are the director of coaching/head coach and two assistant coaching roles.

"We are encouraging our current coaching staff to reapply for these roles - 2020 will be an exciting year for rugby in Southland, with our men's programme continuing to develop and women's game expanding at a great rate."

Applications close on October 11.

Canterbury coach Joe Maddock will leave his post at the end of the Mitre 10 Cup. He will join Japanese club Toshiba as an assistant coach for former Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder through to 2021.

Hewett is from Canterbury and has spent time as an assistant coach at the Crusaders.

He played 71 games for the franchise and 51 for Canterbury.
