Otago Country failed to record a win in five matches in 2012 after a 40-12 loss to Canterbury Country in its final match in Dunsandel on Saturday afternoon.
Down 28-0 at halftime, the visiting side managed to get on the board early in the second half with a try to replacement halfback James Kenny playing in his first match for Country this season because of injury.
His try was followed up shortly after a second to midfielder Hayden Wyber.
Assistant coach Sam Gibbens was upbeat about the match but said the loss was due to the same mistakes his and coach Roger Cotton's side had made all season.
"Missed tackles and turn-ing over the ball cost us big time," Gibbens said.
However, there were some positives to come out of the match including the play of the loose forwards, in particular captain Simon Grant and openside flanker Lee Murray who was the player of day. Dan Eyles and Hayden Wyber also had fine matches in the backs.
The Otago Country Colts side had a 23-22 win over Canterbury Country Colts.
