The Highlanders are taking to the air to get out to their supporters.
The franchise has teamed up with Helicopters Otago and will fly a helicopter south this Thursday to meet some of its supporters.
Highlanders commercial manager Mike Kerr said the team wanted to get out and about and meet all of its fans, but because of the widespread geographical nature of the Highlanders region it was not always possible to get right across the region.
The team had a pre-season camp in Wanaka and played a pre-season game in Oamaru, and has two matches in Invercargill.
Kerr said a helicopter would take three players to southwest Otago and northern Southland to visit three schools and help spread the Highlanders' gospel.
Primary schools would be visited in Riversdale, Heriot, Clydevale and Tapanui. The franchise wanted to get in the rural areas and encourage people from those areas to get to the games at Carisbrook.
The players, who have yet to be finalised, will give away tickets and meet school children.
