Highlanders centre Malakai Fekitoa announced this morning he is off to play for French club Toulon while this afternoon Highlanders winger Waisake Naholo announced that he is staying with the Highlanders for next year.

Naholo was the subject of a rumoured move to the Chiefs but said this afternoon he is staying at the Highlanders next year.

Meanwhile the Highlanders are considering options after the side's scheduled flight to Christchurch at 5.30pm today was cancelled because of the bad weather.

The team is supposed to play against the Crusaders tomorrow night in Christchurch but may be forced to not leave until tomorrow morning.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

You can help us continue to bring you local news you can trust by becoming a supporter.
