Hooker Ben Pereira was in rampant mood and scored three of Alhambra-Union's eight tries when Green Island was beaten 52-24 in Dunedin club rugby today.

The rampaging pack was always dangerous with the ball in hand and scored six of the tries, openside flanker Graeme Cashmore scoring two.

The top teams all won and retain their gap over the rest of the field.

Taieri leads the Gallaway Trophy with 52 points and is followed by Dunedin 45, Southern 42, Alhambra-Union 41, University A 28, Kaikorai 26, Green Island 22, Pirates 16, Zingari-Richmond 15, Harbour 14.

First five-eighth Ben Patston kicked six goals to help Southern beat Zingari-Richmond 40-10.

The Dunedin scrum regained its usual dominance when prop Kelsey Miller came on in the second spell to help his team to a hard fought 19-11 win over Kaikorai at Bishopscourt.

Inside back Ben Nowell displayed courage under fire and explosive pace on attack to become a major contributor in Taieri's 33-13 win over Pirates at Hancock Park.

Otago No 8 Paul Grant led by example with his strong driving play and scored a decisive try to give University A a narrow 17-16 win over Harbour at the University Oval.
