It was a day for records when South Otago High School thumped Central Southland College 87-0 in Winton on Saturday.
It was the highest score by South Otago - and the most tries in a game (14) - in the five years it has been in the Highlanders First XV competition.
Individual school records in the competition were also set by winger Oscar Goodlet (five tries) and centre Matt Whaanga (32 points).
South Otago dominated all phases of the game, led 33-0 at the break and added 54 more points in the second half.
Other players to impress for South Otago were hooker Max Pennell and 15-year-old prop Brady Robertson, in his first start in the Highlanders competition.
The injury-plagued Dunstan High School team gained its first win of the season when it beat James Hargest College 48-3 in Alexandra.
Midfielders Canaan Napier and Tyler Cameron each scored two tries and played a key role in Dunstan's win.
Dunstan demolished James Hargest in the scrums. Loosehead prop Joey Blaikie stood out in the front row, and No 8 Cody Laing had a bustling game.
Otago Boys' High School retained its unbeaten record when it scored 10 tries to beat St Kevin's College 66-10 in Dunedin.
Otago Boys' was the only unbeaten team in the Highlanders First XV competition at the end of the round robin segment of the competition.
A feature of the performance was the accurate goal kicking of Sio Tomkinson in the tricky wind conditions. He converted eight of his side's 10 tries.
Centre Hemaua Samasoni and flanker Nick Scott both scored two tries for Otago Boys'. The other player to impress was blindside flanker Matt Heffernan with his work in the lineout and strong defence.
John McGlashan College scored seven tries to beat Mt Aspiring College 47-21 in Wanaka and gain its sixth win of the season.
The scores were locked at 21-21 at halftime but McGlashan lifted the tempo and spread the ball wide to dominate the second spell.
No 8 Nemo Gent scored two tries, and Thomas Johnson and Sean White both kicked three conversions. Other players to make an impact were midfield back Josh Timu, lock Woody Kirkwood, prop Hamish Hendry and hooker Joe Mullis.
Mt Aspiring College was competitive, especially in the first half, through the efforts of winger Ben Robertson, prop Hamish Thomson and flanker Teegan Vink.
In other games, Menzies College beat St Peter's College 19-8, and King's High School beat Gore High School 57-0. Southland Boys' High School beat Waitaki Boys' High School 19-14 in a midweek interschool.
