The strong Southland Boys High School pack paved the way for an impressive 67-6 win against Verdon College at Invercargill today.
Flanker Nick Hayes stood out with his constructive play. He was always in support and played a key role in Southland Boys' 11 tries.
The other key member of the pack was prop Lennon Gavin, who had a strong game in the set pieces and was strong with his hit ups.
Fullback Cunis Tarrant was strong on the counter-attack with his incisive running.
Wing Sven Penwarden scored two tries and first five-eighth Scott Eade kicked five conversions.
In the other game played today, Dunstan High School beat South Otago 52-10.
Wing Michael Harvey used his pace to score two tries and halfback Tom Dougherty kicked five conversions.
The other key players were prop Lani Rooney and flanker Keelan Baird.
The game between Central Southland College and Gore will be played as the curtain-raiser for the Ranfurly Shield match between Southland and North Otago on Friday night.
The other three games were played as traditional interschool games midweek.
