The crash happened on State Highway 76 near the Halswell Junction Rd on-ramp just after 7.30am on Thursday.
NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi said the left eastbound lane was blocked until about 8.45am.
Traffic was backed up to the Shands Rd off-ramp following the crash.
NZTA said the scene has been cleared and traffic was now flowing freely.
It urged motorists to drive to the conditions and be patient.
"Please be patient as congestion eases and regular traffic flow resumes."
