One dead after crash involving truck and car on busy Christchurch road

A person has been killed in a serious crash in Christchurch that closed part of SH74 on Wednesday.

Emergency services were called to the crash involving a truck and car on Main North Rd (State Highway 74) in Belfast about 11.10am.

A police spokesperson said one person was killed in the crash.

"Police remain at the scene undertaking a scene examination. Motorists should expect delays or if possible avoid the area."

The serious crash unit has been called in. Diversions are in place with southbound traffic currently being diverted down Factory Rd.

The Christchurch Travel Information Team said the crash has closed SH74 to southbound traffic just north of Richill St.

"Traffic is currently being detoured down Factory Rd and back onto Richill St for southbound travel.

"With the Serious Crash Unit involved road users should expect this to remain in place for a considerable amount of time. Delays are to be expected until this is clear."
