Two children have been hit by vehicles within ten minutes of each other in Christchurch.

The first incident happened on Selwyn St, near Hazeldean Rd about 8.20am on Thursday, where a child was left with serious injuries after being hit by a car, said a police spokeswoman.

In Hornby about 10 minutes later,  another child was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Waterloo Rd and Taurima St.

A police spokeswoman said the child was taken to Christchurch Hospital with minor injuries.
