A Canterbury golf tournament has raised $25,000 to cover the costs of operating a public swimming pool.

The Malvern Lions Annual Golf Tournament was held at the Greendale golf course on Friday.

The day dawned with a light frost and the wind got up about lunchtime but as the afternoon went on the breeze dropped and it was perfect for golf.

Organisers thanked the Greendale club for keeping the course in great order, and for the hospitality shown to the players and the Lions helpers.

There were 150 players in the Ambrose competition.

The organisers thanked everyone for their efforts to make the day a great success.

The recipient of the money raised was the Sheffield Memorial Pool, which is operated by the Tawera Community Trust.

The funds will go towards the replacement of the pool's covers and assisting with the maintenance and operation of the pool.

The pool committee put on morning and afternoon tea. The raffle table was also impressive with 190 names called out and there were still prizes left over for a free-for-all at the end.

Big fundraising effort

The Sheffield Memorial Pool was chosen as the local community charity for the Malvern Lions Club fundraising golf tournament.

The tournament raised $25,000, thanks to the Malvern Lions club, plus all the players, sponsors and supporters who contributed to this fantastic result.

The money will go towards the pool’s operating costs and, most importantly, replacing its disintegrating pool covers. It is a vital investment to keep the pool running for the community.

Malvern Lions gave a special thank you to Hamish, Lynda and Murray, who made the preparation process seamless and were supportive every step of the way.

"Their efforts were greatly appreciated. We strongly encourage other local charitable and community organisations to put their name forward for future Malvern Lions events. The stunning conditions at the Greendale Golf Club and the great spirit of community meant it was truly a day to remember.

"Thanks from the team of the Tawera Community Trust for the Sheffield Memorial Pool."
