Club's jubilee joy
The Southbridge Rugby Football Club 150th jubilee over Easter weekend marked a major milestone for one of Canterbury’s oldest clubs.
Festivities began on Good Friday with a Q+A session featuring guest speakers Andy Ellis, Wayne Smith and Waisale Serevi. On Saturday, a full day of rugby saw junior teams take the field in the morning before Southbridge’s division 1 and 2 sides faced Darfield in the afternoon.

Celebrations wrapped up on Easter Sunday with golden oldies and women’s matches. Seven members of the Carter family – including former All Black Dan and his father Neville – took part in the golden oldies game.
Said Neville: “It was absolutely brilliant, everything went really, really well. The organising committee did a marvellous job with everything and, of course, we had a reasonably good weekend weather-wise too.”
