The Dunedin City Council will revitalise two "pocket parks" in Mosgiel.

Speaking at the Mosgiel-Taieri Community Board meeting last week, council urban designer Peter Christos said the council was looking to reinvigorate the parks at the end of Glasgow and Lanark Sts.

The project is still in its early stages.

Design work would be carried out before the end of June, and implementation would start in the next financial year.

Funding was available for the project.

During discussions, many board members expressed their delight.

Board member Phillipa Bain said she was "very excited" about the revitalisation..

Mrs Bain was appointed as the board’s representative on the project and would liaise with Mr Christos.

Board member Martin Dillon made a few suggestions for Glasgow St, such as adjusting the height of the seats which were too low for many elderly people and reinstating an old "you are here" map.

The map was removed from Factory Rd about two years ago and was meant to be moved to Glasgow St.

Mr Christos appreciated the feedback from board members.

"That’s why we realise it’s important to have local people involved in this very early stage of the development," he said.

Board member Brian Peat said it was a wonderful start to re-beautifying Mosgiel.
