Exhibition co-ordinator Gill Adank said the 176 works by society members, which filled the galleries on the first floor of Dunedin Railway Station, were a great way to share art with locals and visitors.
The range of works, which include jewellery, ceramics, textile art and large-scale paintings, are all for sale and priced under $1000. Some are for sale for just $100.
"A goal of the Art Society is to promote art to everyone in the Otago area," Adank said.
"This exhibition makes buying an original artwork accessible to as many people as possible, at a reasonable price."
The "Art to Go" concept means the exhibition will run on a "love it, buy it and take it away"-basis, buyers able to take the works home with them immediately.
As works are sold they are replaced by new works from the same artist, meaning the exhibition will be constantly changing.
"‘Art to Go’ is a great opportunity to purchase a new artwork for your home, or to buy a great Christmas present for someone special," she said.
"The reasonable price of these works often brings new visitors to the gallery, especially people who previously thought they couldn’t afford an original artwork. We enjoy the joy that these purchases bring to people."
Having the chance to exhibit their works in the Otago Art Society galleries was also a thrill for the artists, Adank said.
"The Dunedin Railway Station is a beautiful space, which gives a special feeling to our galleries."
Artist Lisa Winslade, whose painting depicts sea lions Jade and her pup, who were shot and killed in the Catlins, plans to give some of the proceeds from the sale of the painting to the Sea Lion Trust.
