
More than 100 secondary students took part in the race last Thursday, divided into para, junior (under 15) and senior (over 15) boys’ and girls’ categories.
Participants completed a 2.5km loop that started by the Stevenson Tennis Centre and followed Logan Park Drive, skirted Logan Park, went up Butts Road and past the Caledonian Ground before returning to the finish line. The senior boys ran a 5km double lap.
Preliminary results saw King’s High School student Caleb Dobier take first place in the junior boys’ division with a finish time of 7min 45.2sec.
Otago Girls’ High School student Eva McLean won the junior girls’ event in 8min 47.8sec.
Kaikorai Valley College student Xavier Watterson claimed the para title in 9min 23.7sec.

Her brother Dan Kelleher, of King’s High School, claimed the top spot in the 5km senior boys’ distance in 15min 52.9sec.
The event was the first in a series of cross-country competitions organised by the Otago Secondary Schools Sports Association.
A Central Otago cross country race was held today, starting at the Cromwell Racecourse.
Next Wednesday, May 13, the Caversham relays will take place at Kettle Park, starting about 1pm.
The Otago-Southland relays will follow in Milton on Tuesday, May 19.
The final event in the series is the Otago cross country on Thursday, May 28, at Kaikorai Valley College, races beginning from about 11.45am.
