Grassroots organisations Valley Baptist Community Trust, The Valley Project and Valley Community Workspace, which had been trying to raise the funds to buy the site, announced that they had been unsuccessful.
Both the 270 North Rd site and the house behind it at 6 Calder Ave were sold.
The Valley Project executive chairman James Sutherland told The Star he understood that the church site had been bought by a developer and that there were possible plans to eventually demolish it.
The site has been a thriving community centre, accessed by about 60 local grassroots organisations, including early childhood education, dance and karate lessons, a playgroup and community events.
Mr Sutherland said the lease would expire on November 24, and groups would need to find a new home after that.
"Fortunately, there are some good options for groups in the valley," he said.
Community spaces included The Valley Project rooms, the North East Valley Bowling Club, Nga Maara hall at Sacred Heart School, North East Valley Normal School hall, and Pine Hill School hall.
"We are delighted that there is the option of the bowling club for groups, as we were recently able to help save it from sale," Mr Sutherland said.
Local groups were already starting to use the bowling club for their meetings and activities, much to everyone’s delight.
"They are a great bunch of people, and we are really pleased to have been able to connect them to community groups," he said.
