After another rollercoaster year for households in Dunedin and New Zealand, it is an achievement to stay positive and keep smiling.
The ongoing cost-of-living crisis has put family budgets under pressure, meaning a tough Christmas lies ahead for many.
However, if the stories we have shared this year prove anything, it is that the spirit of kindness and resilience in our city is unshakeable.
Throughout this year, The Star team has kept its fingers on the pulse — sharing stories of community resilience, the triumphs and tragedies, good times and bad.
We pride ourselves on being a community connector, supporting local organisations across the board — from clubs, churches and charities to sports groups and the arts.
The hazy, lazy days of summer lie just ahead for those of us lucky enough to get a break over Christmas.
The Star team has finished up for the year and will be out of the office until January 12, 2026.
Our first issue for next year will be published on January 15.
It will be good to take a moment to rest, reflect and hopefully spend time with family and friends.
It is also a perfect opportunity to visit some of the beautiful places we are so fortunate to have within driving distance.
If you are having a holiday, spare a thought for those who will be working through and if you are on duty — thank you for all that you do.
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all — stay safe, be well, see you in 2026.
— Ngā mihi, The Star team.
