A major project and fundraiser for the Friends of Dunedin Botanic Garden (DBG), the plant sale will be held this Sunday from 9am-1pm, at the garden Propagation Facility, 82 Lovelock Ave.
Friends of DBG president Jocelyn Livesey said volunteers had been hard at work for months, propagating cuttings ready for the sale, which will help raise funds towards ongoing projects in the botanic garden and supporting further education for garden staff.
"We have a fantastic selection of strong and healthy plants available, especially the rhododendrons, but also perennials, shrubs, woodland plants like hellebores and trilliums, primulas, hostas and salvias," Ms Livesey said.
Alongside the plants prepared and sold by the Friends of DBG themselves, there will also be stall holders from plant nurseries across the region, as well as stone sculptures and wood turning on offer.
During the morning, at 10am, Rhododendron Dell collection curator Steph Sinton will be on hand to lead a guided walk through the dell.
She will describe highlights of the collection, share a few stories from its history and some future plans, while answering rhododendron questions along the way.
Interested people are invited to meet in the upper garden carpark, at the entrance to the azalea garden.
Sturdy footwear is advised, and there is no mobility access.
The plant sale will go ahead on Sunday, rain or shine, eftpos will be available and customers are asked to bring along their own boxes and bags.
A coffee vendor will also be on-site.
