Twilight contest ended in nail-biter

Nail-biting nerves gave way to cheers during a dramatic twilight tournament.

Outram Bowling Club overcame a formidable Milton team in a tense deciding match of the Twilight Tosser’s Pairs Tournament at the St Clair Bowling Club on Sunday.

Organisers Mary Coupland and Craig Reed hoped the event would encourage twilight players to become full members of their respective clubs and sustain the sport.

‘‘Working together as bowling clubs has more benefits than competing against each other,’’ Mr Reed said.

Teams from across the region sent their top social players for an initial taste of competitive play.

With hundreds of dollars and a newly created trophy at stake, smiles and laughter echoed across the greens.

Local musician Sam Charlesworth provided live entertainment with a set of original songs.

It was a novel experience for Charlesworth, who performed from the greenkeeper’s shed.

While the day was not as sunny as hoped, the St Clair microclimate maintained a constant temperature and kept the rain away.

Mr Reed said he hoped interested organisations could host the tournament next year, using the St Clair format to keep the competition fresh and circulating around the province. Outram Bowling Club was officially crowned the winner for the 2025/26 season.
