The final layout for the upgrade of the Alexandra Town Centre has been approved by the Vincent Community Board.
Central Otago District Council roading manager Julie Muir told the board the existing kerb from the Westpac Bank to Limerick St would be altered so the existing path could be widened to be a consistent width along that side of Tarbert St. New lighting could be installed.
Cr Graeme Bell was concerned about the reduction in the size of the carriageway at the intersection of Tarbert and Limerick Sts.
More rubbish bins would be installed and bike racks put in place at The Warehouse, the Monument area and near the corner of Tarbert St and Deel St.
The board voted to give the roading manager and the community facility manager the task of progressing with the project within the constraints of the allocated budget of $570,000 and the scope of the report.
Cr Bell reminded members that money was still to be made available for a toilet at Dunorling St.
An attempt to have at least a couple of board members oversee the project was not accepted.
Once street-style lighting was confirmed about mid-April, work will begin on the three-stage project and all the work should be finished by December.
