The bronc string, owned by the Outram and Lawrence rodeo clubs, were recently taken on a 20km trek from Lawrence to Ray McDonald's property, Castle Dent.
About 20 horsemen and women took part in the ride, which included forestry tracks, Lawrence Rodeo Club president and Outlaw Bronc head stockman Graham Kenny said.
The horses, which were drenched and given selenium, would live there for the rest of the winter and be brought in again before Christmas and handled regularly before the summer rodeo season, Mr Kenny said.
''You could say if I wanted to come back as anything it would be a rodeo horse. You only have to work for eight seconds twice a year. The rest of the time you get to eat and sleep and relax,'' Mr Kenny said.
Most of the broncs were given to the clubs because they were either badly trained or ''had a bad attitude'', Mr Kenny said.
''If we didn't take them, they would be bound for pet food,'' he said.
