IT event focuses on smaller businesses

Dunedin hosts the first of eight IT roadshows nationwide today, showcasing the latest developments by Microsoft and Hewlett Packard, with the emphasis on small to medium-business applications.

For the first time, the Right Click event has changed its focus from a technology expo to hands-on interactive applications in the themed zones of business environments, Auckland Chamber of Commerce relationship manager Kristan Painter said.

"Right Click is about making IT relevant for small to medium businesses - how it is accessible to them without needing the big budgets of larger companies they may be competing with," she said.

Among the various technology displays on all morning at the Glenroy Auditorium are Mini Note and the new Touch Smart PC, while Microsoft will have its new Small Business Server 2008, with comparisons to the 2003 and 2007 versions.

The Perfect Office is among Hewlett Packard presentations, which include Print 2.0.

One of the guest speakers is founder and chief executive of New Zealand company The Small Business Company, Glen Senior, whose company has become the online training company for Microsoft globally, outlining examples of staff and IT applications contributing to work-life balance.

The Dunedin event, hosted by the Otago Chamber of Commerce, has attracted more than 80 business registrations.

The final roadshow is in Auckland in three weeks.
