Flynn Daggar, 18, said he and a friend kept themselves entertained by playing games and singing songs while waiting for the new JD Sports store, in George St, to open.
‘‘We decided to do an all-nighter,’’ Flynn said.
‘‘Instead of going home we stayed the night in town and made our own line early.’’

They ended up being the fourth and fifth people to enter the new store.
‘‘I kind of just wanted to do something that I hadn’t done before and I thought of it as a fun challenge.
‘‘It was a very fun experience, and also very cold.’’

The Dunedin store is JD Sports’ eighth in New Zealand.
Around 200 people were queued up outside it by 9am yesterday.
Benji Nika, 17, said he had been waiting in line since about 4.30pm on Wednesday.
He too stayed up the whole night and, as one of the first 100 people through the doors, scored himself a goody bag.
‘‘I’m proud of how far I’ve come through this,’’ Benji said.
‘‘It was a bit of a struggle at night because of the cold, but it is what it is.’’
JD Sports New Zealand managing director Ben Hapgood said yesterday morning’s turnout was amazing.
‘‘It’s clear there’s a real appetite for JD Sports in Dunedin.
‘‘We’re confident the store will continue to be a popular destination for locals, and we’re excited to become part of the Dunedin retail landscape.’’
