A vigil planned for Dunedin tomorrow to honour slain English tourist Grace Millane follows one in Queenstown tonight.

The Dunedin vigil will be held in the Octagon from 7pm tomorrow.

Co-organiser Izzy Lomax-Sawyers said the death had shocked and saddened people.

"One thing that feels very apparent to me is that any one of us could have been Grace. Many of us have been solo travellers, and have gone out in town in Auckland.

"Young women should be safe in Aotearoa; when travelling alone, when going out at night, and when in our own homes.''

Meanwhile, English ex-pat Amanda Morris said she decided to organise a vigil because Queenstown is "such a tourist place'', and the tragedy would have hit close to home for many in the resort.

"There are so many people here in Queenstown that are feeling it hard.''

The vigil will be held tonight from 7pm, in front of The Bath House Cafe.

Miss Morris said people should bring candles, flowers, or any other tributes they wanted to share.

Vigils are also being organised in other parts of the country, including Auckland and Wellington.

Was there a vigil for baby moko here?
What about all the other needlessly murdered people in New Zealand?

Do you want the vigil to be 'balanced'? You really miss the point. It does not diminish the other tragedies in this increasingly unsafe country.
