Preparing to take people on a mini-voyage of discovery at Careys Bay, Dunedin, are Alan Gray (left) and Brendan Christie, with a melodica.

The pair will join Lara Robertson and Ella Campbell in presenting tall tales and salty shanties on board the Port to Port ferry today as part of the Dunedin Fringe Festival.

"You will be collected by Cap'n Spoonbill and The Hoiho on the shores of Port Chalmers and whisked away across the seven seas," the group says in promotional material.

"Time will stand still as the mystery of the deep is brought to life through the magic of song and story."

The quartet is presenting four shows today, each running for up to 45 minutes.
