CD reviews: Primal Scream

With a huge assortment of influences and styles to call on from their 30-plus years of making music, Bobby Gillespie and co have opted for a trip back to the early '90s and acid house for their 11th album.

Still, it's not all glo-sticks and silly grins.

Gone is the existential industrial angst so brilliantly explored in the early 2000s for something that sounds like it has been cobbled together on an early electronic keyboard.

Buried in the mash-up are beguiling melodies that creatively evoke the essence of Screamadelica.

It is a little bit hit-and-miss but, given time, Chaosmosis reveals a little depth, some structure and a whole lot of fun.

Primal Scream. Chaosmosis. Ignition.

Three and a half stars (out of five)
