Gin and Dane Rumble lead finalists at Music Awards

The finalists of this year's New Zealand Music Awards were announced tonight, Gin Wigmore and Dane Rumble leading the field with six nominations each.

The Phoenix Foundation scored five nominations on top of taking home all three Tuis in technical categories, already awarded tonight.

Anika Moa and J Williams were nominated finalists in three categories each.

The Phoenix Foundation feature in the Album of the Year category which includes Moa, Rumble, Wigmore and Shapeshifter.

The Wellington band is also in the running for the Single of the Year, alongside Rumble, Wigmore, Williams and Kids of 88.

Shihad have been named winners of this year's Legacy Award. The band will be officially honoured at the awards ceremony on October 7 and will be inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame.

Wigmore, Rumble, Kids of 88, Shapeshifter and Stan Walker are nominated for the People's Choice award.

A first this year is the Critic's Choice Prize, for which Street Chant, The Naked & Famous and Home Brew have been shortlisted with the winner decided on September 15 after the three artists play a showcase gig in Auckland.
