Six Kiwi bands set to rock New York City

Six acts from New Zealand will travel to New York City to perform at this year's CMJ Music Marathon.

Zowie, Kids Of 88, Ruby Frost, Electric Wire Hustle, Lawrence Arabia and Street Chant are set to perform at the NZ@CMJ Showcase during the festival's opening night on October 19.

The event is a collaboration between New Zealand music promotion agencies NZ On Air and the NZ Music Commission.

The inaugural NZ@CMJ event in 2007 was dubbed "one of the hottest tickets at CMJ" by UK music magazine NME and featured Liam Finn, Cut Off Your Hands and The Brunettes. Subsequent shows gave bands like Bang Bang Eche, The Naked and Famous, Die! Die! Die! and The Ruby Suns the chance to reach new audiences.

"New Zealand knows how to party with style. I'm always impressed with the quality of artists represented by this relatively small population from the other side of the globe," vice president of content at CMJ Network Rev. Moose said.

"The Kiwis have done a stellar job branding their nationality as a collection of stunning sounds from deserving new talent. CMJ Music Marathon and Film Festival is proud to be a destination for emerging artists from such a bountiful source."

CMJ Music Marathon was introduced in 1980, with only a few venues around NYC as a way for industry professionals to discover new breaking artists in the college radio world. Notable acts like Nirvana, Eminem, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Arcade Fire have played at the festival in the past.
