Bayfield High School is well known for its high-quality productions and this year will be no exception!
Come along and revisit the summer of 1958. Danny Zuko and Sandy Dumbrowski meet and have a summer romance.
They part ways only to be reunited at Rydell High School, where we meet two groups.
One is Danny’s gang of friends: Kenickie, Doodie, Roger and Sonny, who make up the T-Birds, and the other is The Pink Ladies: Rizzo, Frenchie, Jan and Marty, with whom Sandy becomes friends.
Things get complicated when the Pink Ladies realise Sandy’s summer fling was Danny, and arrange a surprise meeting.
Join us on this roller coaster adventure of love, romance and adventure with the kids at Rydell.
Grease has long been a Bayfield favourite to perform. The first performance in 1991 featured our very own teacher of Music and Drama, Philippa Hosken as Rizzo.
It was performed again in both 1998, and 2008. The 2008 performance was the last year that Bayfield staged productions in Herron Hall, before the school outgrew this, and adopted its new home at the Mayfair Theatre.
We have a talented cast and crew, with Ben Hayward as Danny and Jess Larkins as Sandy.
Both have had significant experience on the stage. Jess Larkins has performed in the Taieri Musical Society’s rendition of ‘The Sound of Music’ as Brigitta, and Ben Hayward is currently also appearing in the male ensemble for Musical Theatre’s production of Priscilla.
We have many talented students in the other lead roles who have been involved in numerous Bayfield and local productions over the years.
In addition to this talented cast on stage there is an accomplished pupil-led team of back stage crew, technicians, props, hair and makeup, and musicians.
There are over 100 students involved in this show on and off stage. This team of students has been supported by the staff, parents and community of Bayfield High School. We send out a big “thank you” to all those involved.
We could not have done the show without the help of Pip Hosken in the roles of Director, Music Director, Production Manager and Producer. We have also been lucky enough to have three choreographers: Megan Barbour, Katy McLennan and Kerry Hockley-Remon. Sally Vorgers is acting as Assistant Production Manager and Shannon Small is Stage Manager.
Bayfield offers daytime performances free for our contributing schools but there are also four evening performances that are open to the public.
Come and join us at the Mayfair Theatre Wednesday 11th April through to Saturday 14th April starting at 7pm.
Tickets are available from Bayfield High School front office or Julie Johnston on 03 455 0113.
