With vaccination rates increasing and the COVID-19 Protection Framework set to start at 90% vaccination, the Southern Health system has been planning for how health services will be delivered when COVID-19 becomes part of the ‘new normal’ in New Zealand.
“We have the advantage of vaccinations and public health measures to protect our patients, staff and visitors, but COVID is in New Zealand and is here to stay so we need to ensure we continue to provide the care our population needs,” says Dr Hywel Lloyd, COVID-19 Executive Lead, Southern DHB.
“We will have cases of COVID in the Southern district and we’re planning for the majority of patients to be cared for and recover at home.”
