Since they took over the North Dunedin motel in January, Robyn and Garry have been making small improvements to what was already Qualmark four-star rated accommodation.
It's been a busy period, and a learning curve for the pair, who are both new additions to the motel industry. Robyn was previously a clinical nurse manager, while Garry had worked as a marquee rigger after a long stint in the Royal New Zealand Navy.
Both were looking for a lifestyle change, and have greatly enjoyed their first months at Bella Vista Motel Dunedin, particularly loving the daily contact with people.
They're dedicated to making sure guests have a great stay at the motel and in Dunedin, and certainly go the extra mile. Whether that be lending a pair of cufflinks, or booking further accommodation and activities around the country for newly arrived tourists, it's all part of the friendly service.
Being a part of the nationwide Bella Vista chain has helped them over the first months in the motel industry. Other motel owners in the chain can offer advice, and there is assistance from the national operations manager and an interiors consultant readily available.
Bella Vista also have conferences for their managers every six months. Robyn and Garry are both excited that the next one will be hosted in Dunedin.
