WARDROBE CONFESSIONS: Amie Pont

Already well-known in Central Otago for her voluntary work, Amie Pont says her wardrobe changed a little when she was appointed the Maniototo's first community development co-ordinator. Lea Jones learns more.

How would you describe your style?

I guess it's tidy casual mixed with my more corporate-skewed work clothes.

Forest Gump's box of chocolate quote keeps popping into my head ... you never know what you're gonna get. Mainly because, to be honest, most of my clothes have been given to me by friends and family!

Has it evolved over the years?

I wear more of them ... mainly because there seems to be more of me for some strange reason. There's that whole layering look that I like a lot.

I was brought up to always dress nicely and, depending on my mood, I try to keep that up.

Describe your wardrobe.

Dark shades mainly, lots of skirts, always a great pair of boots in there somewhere.

I have far more winter clothes as I like winter fashion more. I'm trying to expand my summer wardrobe.

There's some definite more expensive key items that don't date the essentials.

Whose style do you like or look up to?

My mother-in-law. She always looks amazing.

Who are your favourite designers?

Sheesh, there's a couple out there with the name Trelise aren't there?

If it looks good and is a reasonable price (and my husband gives the official OK) then I will buy it.

What is your favourite item of clothing?

I have a wool jacket that my Mum actually wore when she was pregnant with me so it's from the '70s but it's an absolute classic and of such high quality to have lasted so many years.

What was the last clothing item you bought?

Tops for layering.

What has been your best fashion bargain?

I bought a skirt at Style Corner here in Ranfurly probably four years ago ... it is still going strong and doesn't date.

What has been your biggest fashion mistake?

G-strings. They are wrong on so many levels. Find me the rewind button for that part of my life.

A fashion tip?

Really baggy clothes inspire slouching. There's nothing better for the stomach muscles than having to be aware of sucking in a little.

If anything is going to show the old builder's crack, put a belt on. There's nothing worse!

A beauty tip?

I started with Suzanne Paul's Natural Glow and am now a diehard Thin Lizzy fan. Never fails.

What fashion item would you buy if money was no issue?

Shoes. And I have a little issue with handbags to the point where my daughters are now asking to use mine and I am now asking to borrow theirs!
