Southern produce is to be showcased at a dinner in Dunedin next month.
After hosting the Outstanding New Zealand Food Producer Awards earlier this year, which named eight category winners and more than 70 finalists, organisers wanted to showcase the produce featured.
The producers were recognised for their commitment to producing excellent farming, horticulture, aquaculture and crafted products
As the dinners being held around the country highlight fresh produce, Alison Lambert of Market Kitchen has been selected to host the Dunedin dinner on November 2 and a local producer will talk about their work.
She as been asked to create a special four-course menu focusing on Otago's winners and finalists. Each are matched with wines to suit.
In Otago, Whitestone Cheese Company's Vintage Windsor Blue won the Outstanding Producer Dairy Crafted, Keewai New Zealand, live freshwater crayfish, won the Spirit of New Zealand Award and Otago Farmers Market the People's Choice Outstanding Farmers' Market award.
Lambert's menu will feature a course incorporating Clevedon Valley Buffalo Company, buffalo mozzarella, Waitaki Bacon and Ham naked pork ribeye, Ardross Farm asparagus.
Another will feature Outstanding producer winner Absolute NZ Angus' porterhouse as well as Keewai New Zealand freshwater crayfish and Brydone organic's first of the season Jersey Benne potatoes.
To finish, Ocho chocolate, Clevedon Valley Buffalo yoghurt and Whitestone cheese will feature.
The Dunedin dinner follows similar events held in Wairarapa, Hamilton, Blenheim and Christchurch.
New Zealand Outstanding Food Producers Awards have a double pass to the dinner on November 2 to giveaway. Tickets are $110 per person for the four-course dinner with each course matched to Ara Wines.
