Long-time Otago Daily Times garden writer Gillian Vine will next year be awarded a Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticulture’s New Zealand National Award.
Vine will receive the Horticultural Communicator Medal at a ceremony in Dunedin in May, following a two-day conference of the International Plant Producers Society.
The award is for "distinguished contributions as a horticultural communicator within New Zealand".
As well as contributing to the Otago Daily Times Inside Out section over many years, Vine has also edited and updated the Star Garden Book, of which excerpts appear in the Your Garden column on this page most weeks.
