Larnach Castle head gardener Fiona Eadie has revised her successful 100 best native plants for New Zealand gardens, first published in 2001.

Extremely popular, there have been numerous reprints and in 2008 a new edition was produced.

For those who have an early copy, the question may be whether to buy the updated one.

The answer is definitely yes, as a third of the plants are different.

The photographs and layout have been updated, giving a modern look, while concentrating on 100 plants - from shrubs and trees to ferns and climbers - ensures each one is well-covered, with cultivation tips and pests or disease likely to be encountered.

As well as Latin and common English names, Maori words are given.

In 100 best native plants for New Zealand gardens Eadie's passion for our plants shines through and should inspire everyone to extend their plantings of natives, small and large.
