It was a long drive to Tekapo in April to find this 1934 Sentinel steam truck on its way to Wānaka. The veteran was surprisingly sprightly and I only had time for four quick frames as it chuffed past me beside the lake.

It was an early start to try to get a shot of Hollywood star Florence Pugh during the filming of a street scene in the Exchange for
East of Eden in January. After setting up at a road-block on Princes St and spending a couple of hours in the rain watching the set being dressed, I was dismayed to find the scene involved the star actor hidden in the middle of a crowd and walking away from my lens. Then a miracle; when she returned to the start for another take, she stepped off the footpath and strolled past the extras, giving me a lovely clear shot.

George, a 4-year-old wheaten terrier, was an eager starter in the annual Francistide Blessing of the Animals at St Paul’s Cathedral in October. George’s owner, Sir Jim Mann, said George’s favourite part of the blessings was seeing cats!
