Australian teen killed in skateboard accident

A teenage boy has been killed in a skateboarding accident in North Queensland.

The boy died after hitting a bollard while skating down a hill in Townsville on Saturday afternoon, police investigations suggest.

He was wearing a helmet and is thought to have been trying to slow down before crashing.

The boy was in a critical condition when police and paramedics arrived at Jezzine Barracks in the city's north after 2.30pm.

They gave the boy first aid but he died a short time later.

The 16-year-old is reportedly a Malaysian national who had been holidaying with family.
