The 2008 Autospectacular has come up with two themes this year that will draw a century's worth of cars to the Dunedin event.

The Edgar Centre, on July 5, will host about 250 vehicles as part of a "100 years of General Motors" and "champions past and present" celebration.

Among them would be a selection from Central Otago, many of which had never been seen in Dunedin, organising committee member Kevin van de Water, of Queenstown, said, including a 1920 Ford T-Bucket hot rod, a 1931 Model A Tourer, a 1948 Ford V8 pick-up truck, a 1952 Mercedes Cabriolet, 1965 Chevrolet Corvette and a 1965 Buick Riviera.

Ashley Boorer, of Dunedin, is organising the past and present champions cars and has rounded up an impressive variety.

Island Park Speedway will supply three victorious machines and Wayne Parker and John Whelan, both of Dunedin, will respectively bring a national awards-winning 1960s XY Falcon and the 2007-08 New Zealand Formula Ford title-winning single-seater.

Aside from the displays, there will be a spannerman team competition and swap meet car stalls.

About 30 car clubs will be involved in the 9am to 4pm event, including the Corvette Club, Otago Falcon and Fairlane Club and North Otago Vintage Car Club.
