From March 28 until yesterday, the society has held the exhibition showcasing both the historic collection of photos from the Hocken Library (photos that would not usually be on display) and present members' photos.
Society president Kate Burton said members have been awarded many national and international honours over the years.
George Chance's photos featured in the historic section of the exhibition.
He was probably the society's most notable photographer, she said.
Matheson Beaumont, who has been with the society for about 65 years, donated some of his images to the society for the exhibition.
He featured in historic and present photographers sections.
The society was formed in 1890 by a small group of amateur photographers and is the longest running photographic society in New Zealand.
Today, it has about 80 members, mostly amateurs.
