All Otago Museum commercial operations combined

The Otago Museum has reorganised its divisional structure, generating increased responsibilities for three staff, with no redundancies, museum organisers say.

Former property services co-ordinator Joel Oldridge was recently appointed manager of a new assets and technology division.

This grouping includes museum building maintenance and security, with information technology recently added.

The role of marketing co-ordinator Juliet Pierce has been expanded to include "delegations" from experience and development director Clare Wilson, involving annual planning, strategic planning, development and project management.

Earlier, part-time marketing assistant Kimberley Smith became a full-time marketing officer as part of the changes, which also enabled Ms Pierce to undertake extra duties.

Museum chief executive Shimrath Paul noted an additional member, Mr Oldridge, had been added to the museum's senior management team through the reorganisation.

Another key area of change is the commercial areas of tourism, venues-related activity and the museum cafe - previously part of the grouping now named "experience and development" - have been consolidated into a reorganised "finance and commercial" division.

Mr Paul said combining all the museum's commercial operations in one division was expected to create additional value from synergies.

The changes would also relieve "pressure" within the experience and development area, given that its director, Ms Wilson, also leads the collections and research team.

The promotions, and associated professional development opportunities, would also help with the museum's succession planning for the future, Mr Paul said.

The collections and research division remains the same.

The former exhibitions, development and planning division has become experience and development.

The former programmes division has become visitor interaction and programmes, and the former finance, assets and commercial division has become finance and commercial.
