Burning couches keep service busy

Firefighters were kept busy attending four couch fires in the student quarter on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

The first fire was reported on Castle St North just before 9pm, a Fire Services spokesman said.

Police and fire personnel were called to another fire on Leith St North, less than an hour later.

Authorities were called again to nearby Dundas St, following report of a couch burning on a footpath, at 12.18am.

Firefighters were called out half an hour later, to investigate smoke in the student quarter, and found a couch ablaze on Hyde St.
