Dunedin Holiday Park and Motels manager Richard Archer said their room facilities were fully booked as guests exchanged their tents for warmer accommodation.
Most campers had chosen to go into cabins, but not everyone.
"We had a family from New Plymouth — they had their kids and a big tent and they were determined to weather the storm."
Richard and April McMurdo, from Rangiora, said they were lucky to be in their caravan, sheltered from the rain.
"The weather didn’t really affect us, so no leakages, no nothing."
Mr McMurdo said much of their holiday involved resting and reading, but he hoped as the weather improved they would have the opportunity to get out and about and visit some Dunedin bays.
