PHOTOS: GERARD O’BRIEN Whether it was sports cards, Pokemon or something else, hundreds of people were out to improve their collections. The Dunedin Town Hall hosted a card market on Saturday, where cards were bought, sold and traded. Waiheke Island couple Steve and Roxanne Guinee, of the Card Show Company, led the organisation of the market. ‘‘Pokemon’s really hot right now, but then you’ve got Magic: The Gathering, Flesh and Blood, you’ve got Yu-Gi-Oh! ... Sorcery ... sports ... everything you can think of,’’ Mrs Guinee said. Balclutha man Justin Knight and sons Toby and Ryan were poring over Pokemon cards. ‘‘I loved them when I was younger, and they loved opening up the packs and getting good cards,’’ Mr Knight said. ‘‘So we decided that we’d actually do a big collection. ‘‘I like this event, because it gives us the opportunity to hunt down some of the cards that will be difficult to find.’’ Plenty of people sought to buy or swap cards at the Dunedin Town Hall. Mr Guinee said the couple moved to New Zealand from the United Kingdom in 2023. He announced within six months he would put on the Auckland Card Show, because he felt New Zealand needed such an event. ‘‘It’s just snowballed since then,’’ Mr Guinee said. A major trading show was staged in Christchurch last month. The company branched out with a market in Dunedin and planned to be back next year. grant.miller@odt.co.nz
