City's breweries, bars, wildlife praised

Cheers Dunedin. The city's beers have earned praise in an article "The beer lover's guide to Dunedin", published on USA Today's online edition.

"Being a university town, there is no shortage of places in Dunedin that make beer, including, I'm sure, plenty of students making their own home brew," the article notes.

The Speight's Brewery is given a plug as supplying the city's residents and the world with "Some mighty fine beers, including the iconic pride of the south".

The brewery tour, particularly the chance to taste its Dunedin-based brews, also received special mention.

Also receiving praise were the city's microbreweries: Emerson's Brewery, McDuff's Brewery and Green Man Brewery.

Those wanting a "quintessential Dunedin pub experience" were advised to try Albar, Tonic and Metro.

For those with more than drinking on their mind, the article recommends exploring the city's wildlife, including the penguins, albatross and sea lions.

Further afield, the Otago Central Rail Trail is recommended, as well as a drink at the Vulcan Hotel in St Bathans and the Royal Hotel at Naseby.

For lovers of a stronger tipple, the Hokonui Moonshine Museum in Gore is said to be a must-see stop.
