After seven All Black games and thousands of kilometres, the Rugby World Cup campaign is finally over for Rod Mathias.

Earlier this year a $12 bottle of pinot gris helped the Dunedin man win a rugby pack comprising match tickets, air fares, and accommodation for every All Black match.

"I just hope they make the final," he told the Otago Daily Times in February.

Mr Mathias said the All Blacks' final against France and their opening match against Tonga were the highlights of the package, which had him travelling to the North Island every weekend.

During his trips away he met All Black coach Graham Henry, former captain David Kirk and All Black greats Colin Meads and Jonah Lomu.

His 15-year-old daughter, Emily, even shared a hotel swimming pool with Sonny Bill Williams, Dan Carter and Richard Kahui. "She was just overawed."

Mr Mathias said he took his 17-year-son, Thomas, to the final and that was "an experience of a lifetime".

"But it's nice to be home and to get my life back to normality," he said.
