Three people have been charged after police were called to fighting in Andersons Bay this afternoon and another person was injured after being hit by a vehicle being driven from the scene.

Armed police officers and dog units have swarmed Somerville St after police responded to a report of an assault about 12.15pm.

Detective Sergeant Chris Henderson, of Dunedin, said following the incident two men, aged 32 and 57, had been charged with fighting in a public place.

The 57-year-old man was also charged with assault with a weapon.

One of the two men received minor injuries.

A third person received minor injuries after they were hit by a vehicle as it left the scene.

A fourth person, a 37-year-old man and the alleged driver of the vehicle, was also charged with assault with a weapon.

An investigation into the circumstances of the incident was underway.

Police were not seeking anyone else in relation to the matter.
