The cruise ship Volendam passes Careys Bay yesterday morning, while another liner, Diamond Princess, enters Otago Harbour in the background.

Tourism operators and retailers in Dunedin reported bumper trade, despite four seasons of weather in one day, with more than 4000 visitors in the city.

One business to benefit was the St Clair Beach Resort restaurant, Pier 24, where a large table of cruise-ship visitors spent more than $2000.

The departure of both ships was delayed by about two and a-half hours yesterday evening because of high winds.
