The Dunedin Fringe Festival celebrated its new home and new logo last night.

Festival director Josh Thomas said this year's festival artists, funders and supporters were invited to an ''office warming'' at the new festival headquarters in George St last night.

The festival staff had been based in a ''cramped and hot''office in the Carnegie Centre in Moray Pl for 12 years and decided to move to the bigger office near the Octagon to increase its public profile, Mr Thomas said.

''Visibility is important. We want more Dunedin locals and visitors to discover what Dunedin Fringe has to offer and it's hard to do that buried in a basement office.''

The ''quirky'' new festival logo, designed by Otago Polytechnic School of Design graduate Laura Benjamin, mirrored the ''on the edge and outside the square'' festival.

''There are a few unusual acts performing in the festival this year but I can't talk about that until the programme launch . . . it is a good mix of experimental and some serious, considered work, which is nice.''

The public would be invited to the programme launch at a secret Lower Octagon venue on February 13, Mr Thomas said.

The festival runs between March 12 and March 22 with the opening night showcase launching the festival on March 11 at Regent Theatre.
